“Janis Joplin played a concert at Seattle Pilots Stadium in Tempe on Oct 3 1969, a year before she died. The audio here is an ad that Bill Compton did for KCAC “Radio Free Phoenix” in 1969. I just threw some old photos of Bill on there in random order with a shot of me (Marty Manning) and Ron Harris on stage at the concert doing a comedy sketch . People broke thru sections of the outfield fence, and fires were set on the field. Tempe passed an ordinance outlawing rock concerts after that! Also, for anyone who has ever heard my story about getting a swig of Janis’ Southern Comfort .. this was that night. And I needed it!”
